Yes! Thinking Putty is loved by everyone and is safe for children ages three and up.
Like all creative toys, Thinking Putty can get messy if left alone with young children. Thinking Putty should not be used by children under three years of age for this reason and should always be used by older children with supervision.
We recommend using rubbing alcohol (the greatest percent isopropyl alcohol you can find - 99% is ideal) from the drugstore.
It is the easiest way to remove Thinking Putty from skin, hair, and fabrics. Some people will purchase antiseptic ethyl rubbing alcohol. This is NOT effective.
For hair or skin, pour a liberal amount of rubbing alcohol over the putty. Use the flat part of a credit card or the back of a butter knife to help remove the putty from skin; use a comb to help remove the putty from hair. .
For fabric, spot test first. If safe, liberally pour the rubbing alcohol onto the putty and use the flat part of a credit card or back of a butter knife to get the bigger pieces off. Then apply more alcohol and rub the area with a washcloth until nothing remains. This may take several applications but the alcohol will dissolve the putty and help release it from the fabric.
Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Thinking Putty is best left in its tin when it is not being used. But if it does stay on fabric for an extended period of time, once the putty itself is removed (see above), certain pigments in different colors of Thinking Putty can stain certain fabrics. As with any product, we suggest watching children when they are playing with it to make sure it is not left on fabric for a long period of time. Feel free to contact us for additional help.
No way! Thinking Putty is silicone-based, not clay- or earth-based like other modeling compounds. Thinking Putty will never dry out or crumble. The only reason to keep it in a closed container is to offer protection from dirt, dust, and hair that may otherwise accumulate.
